'Dukes of Hazzard' Fans Gather in Georgia to Celebrate'Stuck in what he calls "the Northeast corridor," Billy
Shaffer can't turn his back on the three generations of family who have lived in New Jersey. His life is, and will remain,
in the North, he says. Yet his heart longs for the Southern red clay roads presided over by the General Lee.... After rushing to finish his own General Lee vehicle in time for the show,
Shaffer looked around at the four-barrel-carburetor atmosphere and pondered the stubborness of the Dukes' appeal.... "It's
a different type of people in the North, and even though I grew up in New Jersey, I feel like a transplant. I don't belong
there, I belong here," he says, looking out over a racetrack peppered with nearly 200 '69 Dodge Chargers, all painted
red-orange with a Confederate battle flag on the roof and "01" on the doors.'

One Nation or Several? - The Coke, Pop or Soda DebateOne of the key aspects of national and cultural identity is language.
In fact, scientists and historians have demonstrated how language directs thought and inspires action. Thus, the language
we speak and the words we use are all-important.
Amongst the English-speaking peoples of North America
there are several words, for example, that are used for soft drinks like Coca-Cola, Dr Pepper, Cheerwine, etc. In New England
(Yankeeland), the typical word is 'soda.' In the Midwest and old 'rust-belt' (as it is now commonly called
in the media), they use the word 'pop.' And in Dixie, the most popular and traditional word is 'coke.' The
West coast, being 'newer' and a far less culturally homogenous land now, is divided between the Yankee and Midwestern
terms.

Jesse Helms is Dead at Age of 86'Former Sen. Jesse Helms (R-N.C.), a conservative icon who represented
the Tarheel State in the Senate for 30 years, died early this morning at the age of 86.... Helms served in the Senate from
1972 to 2002, where he became a leading voice of the right wing of the Republican Party... To many on the right, it was Helms,
not Reagan, who was the true heart of the conservative movement.'
For a very long time Jesse Helms defended
traditional Southron values and culture, doing battle with our enemies in the Federal Senate. We salute the life of a true
Southron patriot.

Article: Happy Secession Day!'That's what Thomas Jefferson would be celebrating
today. Unlike so many Americans, he would not be celebrating the American empire, with its "unitary executive,"
swarms of tax-collecting bureaucrats, its militarization of society, protectionism, economic fascism, suspension of habeas
corpus, domestic spying, etc.....'

Federal Speed Limit to be Imposed?'An influential Republican senator suggested Thursday that Congress
might want to consider reimposing a national [sic!] speed limit to save gasoline and possibly ease fuel prices.'
Surely a bit more Beltway regulation of yet another aspect of our daily lives is just what we really need, right? I mean,
the Federal Government has done such a magnificent job so far - why slow a good thing down?

Article: One Nation Under Obama'Perhaps we should not blame the Senator [Obama] too much for
his ignorance of any American history that cannot be reduced to ideological slogans about equal rights. He is a victim of
his education. Who was there, either at Columbia or at Harvard Law, who did not believe this
booshwa? But his professors, at least, would not disguise the fact that they hated the real America represented by either
Yankees or Southerners or that they rejected the whole notion of patriotism as Neanderthal.'

Washington, DC Sends Another $170 million to Israel'Congress and President Bush kept their pledge to boost defense
assistance for Israel despite deadlock on budget issues. The final version of the supplemental appropriations bill passed
last week in Congress includes an additional $170 million in defense assistance for Israel. Bush signed the bill Monday....
They are doing so to make good on their pledge to increase Israel's defense assistance from an average of $2.4 billion
annually over the last decade to an average of $3 billion over the next.'
And what if you actually
oppose the Feds giving away $170 million of our tax money this time or $3 billion every year to Israel? Surely
that makes you "anti-Semetic," right?

Article: Immigration, Localism, and Next Best Things'Whether due to the dramatic failure of last year’s attempt
at comprehensive reform or to the essential similarity of the two candidates’ positions, the issue of illegal immigration
has so far kept a fairly low profile in the presidential campaign. Given McCain’s heterodoxy, this may be a blessing.
In the absence of a federal solution, state and local governments have begun to take matters into their own hands. This
may be a blessing, too.'

Anti-Invasion Initiatives Fail in Arizona'Two voter initiatives designed to toughen Arizona illegal-immigration
laws will not appear on the November ballot, the chairman of the campaigns told supporters late Tuesday night. Don Goldwater, a former GOP gubernatorial candidate, wrote in an e-mail that
initiative campaigns working to strengthen the state's employer-sanctions law and require police officers to enforce immigration
law each failed to collect the 153,365 petition signatures required to put the proposed measures before voters on Nov. 4.
Both Goldwater and state Rep. Russell Peace, the Republican sponsor of last year's employer-sanctions legislation, launched
the initiative drives in March 2007. But they lacked the financial support needed to hire paid signature gatherers.'

State Farm Insurance Company Aids the Invasion'With an eye on the fast-growing Hispanic market, State Farm
Insurance Cos. will announce Thursday that it will be the lead sponsor of the largest national campaign thus far to encourage
Latinos to become U.S. citizens and register to vote. That will make it the first mainstream U.S. corporation to put money
behind the massive mobilization effort ahead of the November presidential vote. State Farm, one of the country's top home
and auto insurers, will inject $1 million into the "Ya Es Hora" (It's About Time) campaign.'
SLMNews
urges you to dump State Farm and find a different insurance company that does not support the invasion of our land.

New York Mayor Calls Immigration Restrictions 'Insane''America is "committing mass suicide" by putting restrictions
on immigration, Mayor Bloomberg said yesterday.'
What restrictions? The Feds allow millions of aliens
from every region of the planet to come in every year. We're being swamped. The mayor obviously has it completely backwards.
As a strong defender of Big Business interests, which want open-borders to ensure they have a steady supply of cheap Third
World labour to exploit, Mayor Bloomberg is pushing policies that would lower our wages and ultimately completely erase our
culture.

Bush Administration Trying to Start War Against Iran'The Bush administration has launched a "significant
escalation" of covert operations in Iran, sending U.S. commandos to spy on the country's nuclear facilities and undermine
the Islamic republic's government, journalist Seymour Hersh said Sunday.... Hersh told CNN's "Late Edition with
Wolf Blitzer" that Congress has authorized up to $400 million to fund the secret campaign, which involves U.S. special
operations troops and Iranian dissidents. President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney have rejected findings from U.S. intelligence
agencies that Iran has halted a clandestine effort to build a nuclear bomb and "do not want to leave Iran in place with
a nuclear program...."'
Are extremely high gas prices, more American casualties, more debt and the possibility
of an extended nuclear war... are these in our best interests? Of course not. War with Iran would be a distaster for both
the US and Iran (and despite the propaganda from Fox News and the White House) is completely unnecessary - just
as was the war and occupation of Iraq. The warmongering from the Neo-Cons needs to end - for the good of us all.

Article: The Coming of the Ron Paul Democrat'"I'm running a populist campaign,"
he said. "The old Democrat is the new Democrat." That is, the old-style, protectionist, family values, sound money*
Democrat—Conley spoke kindly of William Jennings Bryan--is the future of the Democratic Party. In Conley's mind,
conservatives have no place in the GOP anymore: They've been bamboozled by politicians who do nothing on their issues
once they're safe in office.'

Article: The Sam’s Club Agenda'Among the many dark tidings for American conservatism, there
is one genuine bright spot. Over the past five years, a group of young and unpredictable rightward-leaning writers has emerged
on the scene.... These writers came of age as official conservatism slipped into decrepitude. Most of them were dismayed by
what the Republican Party had become under Tom DeLay and seemed put off by the shock-jock rhetorical style of Ann Coulter.
As a result, most have the conviction — which was rare in earlier generations — that something is fundamentally
wrong with the right, and it needs to be fixed.'

Anglican Conservatives Form Traditionalist Alliance'Conservative Anglicans meeting in Jerusalem will
create a global network to combat modern trends in the Church like the ordination of gay clergy. The group has also decided
to break its relationship with the liberal wings of the US and Canadian Churches. It will operate independently of the Archbishop
of Canterbury, but will stay inside the Anglican Communion. The traditionalists say they are fighting a "false Gospel"
and the rift in the Church cannot be patched up. After five years of trying unsuccessfully to get the American church expelled
for its ordination of an openly gay bishop and blessing of same-sex relationships in church, the traditionalists say the international
alliance will emphasise a more orthodox reading of the Bible.'

McCain and Obama Court Latino Voters'Recognizing the growing political power of the nation’s
largest minority, John McCain and Barack Obama both sought to woo Latinos in back-to-back speeches on Saturday... McCain,
speaking first, promised the approximately 700 attendees that resurrecting the bipartisan immigration bill he helped shape
last year would be at the forefront of his agenda as president. “It would be my top priority yesterday, today and tomorrow,”
McCain said in response to a question about whether he would pursue a comprehensive approach beyond his campaign promise to
secure the border in his first 100 days in office.... And, in remarks that could inflame those Republican border hawks, the
Arizona senator made clear he would not just seek to secure the border first, as he promised in the primary.'
It is clear why illegal immigrants and aliens in general would support one of these two candidates due to their strong
support for the open-borders status quo. What is not clear is why anyone would support them.
