'Some South Carolina organizations are fighting to preserve what they call the "Confederate heritage."
The South Carolina Conservative Action Council and the Confederate States of America Historical Preservation Society kicked
off a statewide "Let Us Vote" campaign Saturday by holding a rally in downtown Greenville.'
Even secession from Alabama discussed at Baldwin County financial crisis meeting
'The financial news Thursday was bad enough that one Baldwin County school board member joked that the
only solution might be to secede from Alabama.... "Without a doubt we are faced, I believe, with the most profound and
significant challenge to public education in the history of this state," said Faron Hollinger, Baldwin school superintendent.'
It would seem that the obvious solution - scrapping government mis-education entirely and going with a free market
model - is never going to be considered until the government itself crumbles. Government mis-education is of course one of
the original planks of the communist manifesto and has long been used by the Feds as a weapon to undermine our culture
and identity in Dixie.
'Former Vice President Dick Cheney says he was "probably" the strongest advocate in the Bush administration of a
military strike against Iran's nuclear program. Cheney told FOX News Sunday in an interview conducted Friday that he believed
the military threat was crucial to negotiations with Iran on ending its efforts to develop a nuclear weapon. "I was probably
a bigger advocate of military action than any of my colleagues," Cheney said. "I think it was very important that
the military option be on the table. I felt that negotiations couldn't possibly succeed unless the Iranians believed the military
option was on the table."'
The only positive thing I can say about the despicable Cheney is that at least
he admits he is a warmonger. The neo-cons practically revel in being warmongers and torturers, as disgusting a thought as
that may be to normal people. If only Obama and his gang would be as open about their own pro-war tendencies. Ah, but
then the game would perhaps be a bit too obvious to even the most unthinking in the public.
By the way, when are
the Feds (the only power in history ever to mass-murder civilians with nuclear weapons) going to give up their nukes?
hmmmmm....
'Though the final size of their mandate is unclear, the opposition Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) has
won a landslide victory, outsting the Liberal Democratic Party which has held a virtually unbroken grasp on power since the
1950s. Japanese analysts are calling the election the most significant change in power in the nation since World War 2. ...While
the DPJ’s first order of business will be its plan of free market decentralization and tax cuts to try to stem rising
unemployment, in the long-term it may have a significant impact on the US relationship with the island nation, as the DPJ
publicly attacked the LDP for letting the US basically dictate policy.'
Imagine a party coming to power in
Dixie which would push through tax cuts, promote the free market AND push to get the Federal military out. That is what seems
to have happened in Federally-occupied Japan.
Rally at the Texas Capitol sparks talks of secession
'Members and citizens supporting the Republican Party rallied against the Obama administration outside the Texas Capitol Saturday
afternoon. The Texas State Sovereignty or Secessions movement is backed by those who think the federal government is getting
too involved in state and local government affairs. One of the options they're considering is seceding from the United States.'
'Mattews, Olbermann, and the rest of the MSNBC propaganda team were just yucking it up over the confiscation
of Mrs. Lee’s family home, Arlington House, for a federal-only burial ground. How rotten he was, they chortled, to oppose
the federal empire.'
Feds kill 10 people, injure 5 others with drones in Pakistan
The Feds continue to murder people in many foreign countries - among then Pakistan.
'At least
10 people were killed and five others injured when a drone fired two missiles at a house in Kanigaram area of Laddha tehsil
of South Waziristan Agency on Thursday. Locals said the attack took place at around 2pm. The injured were rushed to private
clinics where two of them were said to be in a critical condition.'
'The Sons of Confederate Veterans monthly meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at K&W Cafeteria. The
program will be on “The Great Revival of the Army of Northern Virginia” presented by the Rev. Herman White of
High Point. Visitors are welcome.'
'Fiercely independent and thoroughly horrified at the blatantly unconstitutional explosion of federal
tyranny into every aspect of our lives, Texans are set to march on the state capitol in droves on Saturday. They will be delivering
a million-strong petition to their elected officials based on the 10th Amendment, demanding an immediate constitutional
confrontation with Washington. If they are turned away or their concerns inadequately addressed, organizer Gerry Donaldson
says they "will be forced to call for a vote for secession."'
FCC Diversity Officer/thug Mark Lloyd attacks freedom of speech
Restrictions on free speech: another reason we don't need the US Federal Government in our lives.
'Mark Lloyd, newly appointed Chief Diversity Officer of the Federal Communications Commission, has called for making
private broadcasting companies pay licensing fees equal to their total operating costs to allow public broadcasting outlets
to spend the same on their operations as the private companies do.'
So, Mr Lloyd wants to steal massive amounts
of money from private broadcasters to give to Federal propaganda agencies. Isn't this the standard path of all totalitarian
regimes? In a free society people like Mr Lloyd would have to get real jobs instead of living off of looted funds from the
people. In a free society there woud be no central planners such as Mr Lloyd deciding which speech is 'fair' and 'diverse'
- rather, the market would provide what was demanded by consumers.
Secessionist republics celebrate year free from Feds' proxies
'Russia has called for international recognition of Abkhazia and South
Ossetia, one year after formally acknowledging the two Georgian breakaway regions as independent states. "The recognition
... by members of the international community ... will undoubtedly assist the long-term strengthening of peace and security
in the region," Russia's foreign ministry said in a statement.Dmitry Medvedev, Russia's president, said Moscow's decision to recognise the two regions' independence was
"irreversible".'
Shame on the Feds for opposing self-determination and liberty for the peoples of
Abkhazia and South Ossetia!
Here is an audio piece sent in from SLMN reader and pro-South activist Shane from Maryland on taking back
any consent we have unwittingly or otherwise given to the central regime in DC. Check it out!
'Local officials in central Virginia have given Wal-Mart approval to build a store near a famed Civil
War battlefield. The Orange County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 early Tuesday to approve the 138,000-square-foot Supercenter
near the Wilderness Battlefield in Locust Grove. The vote followed a 6 1/2-hour meeting, including a four-hour hearing at
which more than 100 people spoke.'
'An election held under the guns of a foreign occupation army cannot be called legitimate or democratic.
That’s a basic tenet of international law. Nevertheless, the US and its NATO allies have been lauding last week’s
faux presidential elections in Afghanistan as both a sign of growing support for Hamid Karzai’s Western-backed government
and the birth of democracy in Afghanistan. In reality, the carefully stage-managed vote in Afghanistan for candidates chosen
by Western powers is unlikely to bring either peace or democracy to this wretched nation that has suffered thirty years of
nonstop war.'
The White House has released a statement on their probe of people who used torture and other unethical
practices during the Bush Administration (which is actually continuing now in the Obama Administration even though no one
is talking about it in the mainstream press) saying:
'The President has said repeatedly
that he wants to look forward, not back, and the President agrees with the Attorney General that those who acted in good faith
and within the scope of legal guidance should not be prosecuted. Ultimately, determinations about whether someone broke the
law are made independently by the Attorney General.'
Torture is an unethical thing to inflict upon anyone.
It certainly never helps, but rather creates more enemies around the globe. And it's an awesome and fearful power to put in
the hands of the crooks, liars and murderers in Washington DC. Many people often object to this with their fanciful 'ticking
bomb situation' that they have seen on television time and again. In reality we don't know of any time that this situation
has ever happened. But we do know of the Feds torturing people even to death on many, many occasions.
Obama was
once critical of Bush and his cronies for torture - now Obama is letting them all off even as he continues the great bulk
of Bush's imperial policies. Instead of enforcing the laws against torture he is looking the other way. What has really changed?
One crook out, another crook in. And the Empire marches on... for now.

'In a recent Gallup poll conducted on May 7-10, 2009, 51% of Americans identified themselves as pro-life
on the issue of abortion. In 2006, a Strategic Vision poll found that 57% of Georgians said that if given a choice they would
like to see Roe v. Wade overturned.'
Free speech being purged from Europe in politically-correct madness
'It could be construed as a black day for the English language
— but not if you work in the public sector in Europe. Dozens of quasi non-governmental organization and taxpayer-funded
organizations have ordered a purge of common words and phrases so as not to cause offense.'
This is the type
of ridiculous nonsense that governments waste their time and our money on. Anything to restrict our former right to free speech
and give them more control over our lives.
'We
are not content with negative obedience, nor even with the most abject submission. When finally you surrender to us, it must
be of your own free will. We do not destroy the heretic because he resists us; so long as he resists us we never destroy him.
We convert him, we capture his inner mind, we reshape him. We burn all evil and all illusion out of him; we bring him over
to our side, not in appearance, but genuinely, heart and soul. We make him one of ourselves before we kill him. It is intolerable
to us that an erroneous thought should exist anywhere in the world, however secret and powerless it may be. Even in the instance
of death we cannot permit any deviation . . . we make the brain perfect before we blow it out.'
Serbs seeking secession from artificial, US-created Bosnia
'Bosnia remains mired in ethnic divisions 14 years after a peace agreement brokered largely by the United States came into
effect, analysts say. Bosnian leaders say Bosnia is hardening along ethnic and religious lines as U.S. and European hopes
that it could be rebuilt as a pluralistic democracy appear stymied by political gridlock and economic hard times, The Washington
Post reported Sunday. The newspaper said Bosnian Serbs are talking openly of secession, while ethnic Croatians are leaving
the country and religious schisms with Muslims are widening, evidenced by street protests late last year sparked when Bosnian
Muslim school officials in Sarajevo tried to ban "Santa Claus" from delivering Christmas gifts to kindergartens.'
Why is the Empire involved in creating artificial, mulit-national 'countries' half-way around the globe? What business
is it of Washington, DC who is or isn't part of various foreign governments? It's not.
WBTS battle overwhelmed lightly populated Madison County, Kentucky
'The Battle of Richmond’s Eighth Annual Re-enactment is just
ahead, but to place it in proper context, a look behind is required. Because of the tendency to judge history by modern standards,
many individuals don’t get a true picture of the setting for Madison County’s 1862 Civil War battle, according
to historian Linda Ashley. The county and Richmond were totally different from today, the Battle of Richmond Association (BORA)
president points out.'
Confederate raiders visit to Southern Indiana mill reenacted
'In July of 1863, the infamous Morgan's Raiders led by Confederate General John Morgan paid a visit
to the still unfinished Beck's Mill in Salem, Ind. Saturday, re-enactors relived that visit to the recently restored mill,
now an historic landmark in Washington County.'
The threat of being raped by US military during the War Between the States
'During the Civil War many southern women feared sexual assault, and hundreds, perhaps thousands of
women suffered rape. Even though the federal military defined rape as a crime punishable by court-martial, even execution,
some Union soldiers were not deterred: at least 250 were court-martialed for the crime of rape. In North Carolina during
spring 1865, Private James Preble "attempted to rape" two white women, Mrs. Rebecca Drake and Miss Louise Bedard,
and "did by physical force and violence commit rape upon the person of one Miss Letitia Craft. "When Perry Holland
of the 1st Missouri Infantry confessed to the rape of Miss Julia Anderson, a white woman in Tennessee, he was sentenced
to be shot, but his sentenced was later commuted.'
'Miss Parker hilariously hallucinates with politically correct fantasies that bring forth visuals of
the glorious North still fighting the Civil War, still trying to end slavery in the South. Perhaps she is fantasizing about
a contemporary version of Abraham Lincoln, a known racist, when she comments that the Republicans should collectively “drive
a stake through the heart of Old Dixie.” According to Parker, her GOP—the GOP that gave us the Security State,
the Patriot Act, myriad wars, a militarized police state, a corporatist Wall Street, and the worst budget snafus ever—is
the good GOP. Yet it’s been co-opted by these roving bands of skeptical Southerners, fighting the mega-socialist state
being put forth by Obama and his committed minions. How dare they! If only they could all just get along and play the partisan
game, we could move forward swimmingly and enjoy our lives under tyranny in unity and peace.'
1,000 Hawaiians demonstrate for independence from the Feds
'About 1,000 demonstrators who would rather see Hawaii's independence restored are expected to rally outside the Hawaii Convention
Center on Friday.... "We want to show how U.S. imperialism has spread across the Pacific and across the world,"
said Lynette Cruz, an organizer of the Hawaiian Independence Action Alliance. "It'll be fun." Behind the tourist
images of beaches and sunshine, many islanders are still uncomfortable with the 1893 U.S. takeover of the Hawaiian monarchy.
Some believe that developers and a steady influx of outsiders continue to exploit Hawaiian culture.'
Opposition
to the Feds is growing in all corners of the Empire and it's great to see. People are demanding self-determination and liberty
- concepts completely alien to Washington, DC.
More on the Federal judge who said 'no' to free speech and Confederate flag
'A federal judge threw out a former Tennessee student's free-speech lawsuit against a school dress code that banned Confederate
flag clothing. Nearly a year after a jury failed to reach a verdict in Tommy Defoe's case, U.S. District Judge Tom Varlan
ruled against a retrial.'
The Feds really are scumbags who care nothing at all for liberty or our cultural
heritage. This judge is a good example of why we don't need the Feds, their courts or their silly men in black dresses.
'At least 10 people have been killed after a suspected US drone fired missiles into Pakistan's
North Waziristan region, Pakistani intelligence agency officials have said. The raid on Friday on Darpa Kheil village
was the third such attack this month in Pakistan's ethnic Pashtun tribal areas by what are believed to be CIA-operated pilotless
aircraft.'
The CIA murdering people on the other side of the planet... what's new?
The famous Texas Congressman and defender of liberty Ron Paul is 74 today. Happy birthday, sir!
Ron
Paul stays on message
'A year after he became a surprise of the Republican presidential field, Ron Paul
is still on message. "It is surreal that in a free country we are talking only about HOW government should fix health
care, rather than WHY government should fix health care," Paul, a Texas congressman and medical doctor, wrote in a recent
Internet posting.'
More slaughter on both sides in the Feds' occupation of Afghanistan
What makes this senseless occupation worth the billions of dollars and loss of life it is costing us?
6
Federal troops killed in Afghanistan
'Two troops were killed in gunfire in the south on Wednesday, the
U.S. military said, while a third was killed in an unspecified hostile attack. The U.S. also said a roadside bomb Tuesday
in the south killed two troops, while another died of noncombat-related injuries.'
Federal airstrike kills 4 Afghan police; district chief killed in blast
'An airstrike by US-led coalition forces mistakenly killed four Afghan police in southern Afghanistan, while a
district governor, a tribal chief and two US soldiers were killed in roadside blasts in the same region, officials said Wednesday.'
Majority in Post-ABC survey now say conflict not worth fighting
'A majority of Americans now see the war in Afghanistan as not worth fighting and just a quarter say more U.S.
troops should be sent to the country, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.'
Wow, some 'dove' Obama has turned out to be, huh? Having been elected to end the foreign wars, Obama
is out of step with the public and seems increasingly like George Bush in his constant defense of empire. I guess,
the more things change....
'South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint on Wednesday urged opponents of health care reform to stand up to the
White House and "stop them cold" before they can pass a government-run health insurance option. "The only compromise
they're interested in is what type of government run type of plan," the conservative Republican said of the Obama administration.....'
Mike Huckabee is speaking out loudly against self-determination and liberty for the native Muslim and Christian people of Palestine, claiming they have no right to be a sovereign people in their own land. For this revolting stance,
Mike Huckabee has earned our very first 'Imperialist of the Week' designation at SLMN. Huck, you are disgusting.
'Former U.S. presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee said Tuesday there is no room for a Palestinian state "in the middle
of the Jewish homeland" and Israel should be able to build settlements wherever it wants — taking a stance firmly
at odds with Washington.'
The following is an audio recording from SLMN's MDSonOfTheSouth of a highly important historic piece on the subject of secession and liberty by the great Lysander Spooner. Though a
New Englander and fierce opponent of slavery, Spooner supported Dixie's right of secession in the early 1860's. He challenged
the Federal Government time and time again throughout his life and is today remembered as a consisent champion of liberty
and Natural Rights. Check out 'No Treason' below!
Strong support for secession among youth, minorities and lefties
'One in five American adults - 22% - believe that any state or region has the right to "peaceably
secede from the United States and become an independent republic," a new Middlebury Institute/Zogby International telephone
poll shows.... [B]acking was strongest among younger adults, as 40% among those age 18 to 24 and 24% among those age 25 to
34 agreed states and regions have secession rights.'
Notice that support for the right to leave the so-called
'Union' is strongest amongst young people, minorities and leftists. How will the folks who scream 'secessionists are
racists!' try to spin this? haha! Isn't it past time for a pro-liberty alliance of those people who believe in self-determination
to break up this Empire and restore liberty?
One important note: this poll was done a year ago. So one has
to wonder if all those on the Left who supported secession when Bush was in office have turned their back on the prospect
of independence now that their hero is in the White House?
'History and nature have combined in a little-known park which was once the major Confederate military
base in north Florida near the end of the Civil War. In 1864, Camp Milton was a key Confederate installation aimed at blocking
Union advances toward Baldwin, a supply center and rail head. Florida was a big supplier of cattle, salt and other goods to
the Confederate army.'
White County, TN, getting captured Confederate pistol back
'White County is getting back a historic Civil War pistol. The people of White County gave the gun to
Confederate Gen. George Dibrell in 1862, but it was later confiscated as a war prize. A few months ago, the White County Heritage
Museum discovered a private collector in Connecticut had the gun. According to WSMV-TV in Nashville, the museum needed $22,500
to buy it. More than 200 people and businesses donated, with an anonymous donor from Knoxville chipping in the last $10,000
earlier this month.'
It's wonderful that this piece of Southron history is coming back home where it belongs.
All the captured flags and guns held in Yankee States need to be returned. The fact that they were not long ago given back
is a clear sign that we continue to live under occupation - not in any 'reunited' country, as the Feds claim.
'About a year ago, Jackson Lee Sulcer (above), 7, came to the Confederate Cemetery in Fredericksburg
looking for a dirty grave. He happened on the grave site of Virginia soldier Samuel Davis, which appeared unkempt to the boy,
so he decided to tidy it up. "The [headstone] looked scraped and I was kind of putting spit on my finger and cleaning
it off," the Stafford County youth said. Since that day, Jackson--who was voted "history hero" in his Ferry
Farm Elementary second-grade class--has become a frequent visitor to the historic cemetery.'
The media is already hyping up folks like Sarah Palin as possible contenders for Obama in the Federal presidential race coming up in 2012. And more
and more I am seeing 'conservatives' fall into this trap of getting their hopes up at the prospect of 'taking back the country.'
What's the difference between Palin and Obama? Both support bailouts (with a few minor differences). Both support foreign wars and nation-building (just with differing rhetoric on imperialism). Both support the Federal income tax. Both support restrictions on your personal consumption. Both are politicians. And both want to head the largest and most powerful and bloated bureaucracy in the history of
the world - the US Federal Government.
If Palin is the best that the supposedly small-government party can offer,
what's the point in this silly election? Let's just flip a coin... either way we're going to lose. With that in mind,
why not support 'Nobody in 2012'? What we need is not another politician in Washington, DC telling us how to live our lives while stealing
from us in order to support their favourite wars, spending projects, bailouts and such. It doesn't matter if that
politician is in high-heels and lipstick or in dark suits and 'power' ties. It doesn't matter if that politician claims
to be a 'conservative', 'liberal' or 'moderate'. In the end it comes down to this single point - we don't need Washington,
DC in our lives in order to be free and prosperous. What we need is independence.
'Thomas J. DiLorenzo, published author and senior fellow at the Mises Institute, discusses the principle
of nullification as a devolution of power away from the central government into the hands of the state or the people....'
Maryland activist & reenactor organises opposition to socialist health-care
'With his longish, stringy hair and yearning look, you can almost see him as a Confederate soldier on
a long encampmpent - which he is several weekends a year, as a Civil War re-enactor, always playing a Confederate part. "Carrying
that period rifle and pack, wearing the heavy uniform, being out there in the gunfire - you learn what those soldiers felt,"
he says. The experiences anchored his views: Like the 1860s Rebels, he's a hard-core advocate of states' rights. "I sympathize
with the Southern cause," he says. "States' rights are much closer to the founders' vision of our country"
than an overweening federal government, he says.'
Study: US one of the worst surveillance societies in the world
According to this study, the US is one of the very worst places to live in the word in terms of surveillance and human rights - ranking right down there with China, Thailand, Malaysia
and Singapore. The study specifically mentions privacy issues, increased use of CCTV cameras everywhere, extensive government
spying, spreading use of biometric ID and many other disturbing trends in the supposed 'land of the free'.
The immoral outrage (funded by your tax dollars) continues in little villages on the other side of the planet.
'U.S.-led coalition forces killed two Afghan security guards and six others in a raid in the eastern border province
of Nangarhar, officials said Friday.... Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, a provincial spokesman, said U.S. combat forces killed a border
patrol officer along with a member of his family. An Afghan serviceman was among those killed by U.S. forces as well, the
Pajhwok Afghan News agency reports. District officials tell the news agency U.S. forces killed
three family members and arrested several others during the overnight raid.... U.S. military forces have been under pressure
to curb civilian casualties. A May airstrike in Farah province killed as many as 100 Afghan civilians....'
One step forward, one step back in independent South Ossetia?
Believing in the principle of self-determination for all the peoples of the word, we at SLMN have voiced strong support
for the newly freed republic of South Ossetia. Meanwhile the Feds have been very anti-Ossetian and have backed up the aggressive
Georgian government which opposes it with weapons and diplomacy. That said, all is not perfect in South Ossetia. For the sake
of balance, we feel it necessary to point out one of the troubling signs in the tiny republic - a sign that we as liberty-lovers
who have long lived under the thumb of the Feds can certainly identify with. The transfer from a free citizens' militia (which
South Ossetia has had until now) to a centrally-controlled standing military was completed long ago in our own history. In
South Ossetia the same thing seems to be taking place now, sadly.
'For years, there was not much difference
between a civilian and a soldier in South Ossetia, which was embroiled in a long struggle to separate from Georgia.... Now,
with Russia guaranteeing its security, South Ossetia is asking residents to turn in their weapons voluntarily. The police
have opened 50 criminal prosecutions for illegal weapons and plan to offer $300 to $400 for each Kalashnikov rifle, a top
official said.'
'Is it possible to generate opposition to war and empire in the very population on which the empire
relies for its fighters? I submit that the "Left" and "liberals" cannot do this. They do not speak the
language of this population used for cannon fodder, nor do they share its values -- at least not now.
So what
is to be done? Who can turn the tide? It seems that this great and crucial contribution can be made by the libertarians and
the paleocons. They speak the language of patriotism, "isolationism," and individual liberty, which are certainly
not the first words that pop onto the tongues of the Left. But these ideas are part of the bedrock of the ideology informing
the population from which the soldiers of empire are drawn.'
How one family dealt with government child-snatchers
'After being summoned to the doorstep, I had ushered our children into our house and closed the door
behind me. Short of being removed by force, there was no way I was going to permit a CPS investigator to have access to our
home as long as our children were vulnerable to government abduction.'
Peter Schiff makes several good points here. He speaks about how the government shouldn't be forcing people
to make certain economic decisions in a supposedly free society. He also defends the free market as the best possible provider
of goods and services at the lowest prices for the largest number of people. And that's what we want, isn't it?
Federal judge rules against free speach and Confederate flag in TN school
'A federal judge threw out a former Tennessee student's free-speech lawsuit against a school dress code
that banned Confederate flag clothing.'
I'm sure this comes as a shocker to no one. Of course we
expected the Feds to decide against liberty and the Confederate flag - that's what they do. This is simply another
example of what the Feds are good for. Nothing.
'Civil War' sesquicentennial events planned in Alabama
'At the Alabama Tourism Department, Director Lee Sentell's staff is running ads that promote both Civil
War and civil rights history. The department is working on new brochures of historical landmarks and battle sites, Civil War
re-enactments and the Capitol, where the Confederate States were organized. At Fort Morgan, which guarded Mobile Bay during
the Civil War, the Alabama Historical Commission is preparing new restrooms and concessions and making plans for re-enactors
to appear and candlelight tours. Commission Director Frank White expects increased tourism at Confederate Memorial Park, Gen.
Joe Wheeler's home, and other Civil War sites.'
Schools let Quaker counter recruiting pitches, government objects
'A rural North Carolina school district with a proud military tradition has surrendered to a Quaker
peace activist’s request for access to high school students so she can warn them about joining the military, attorneys
said Wednesday. For years, Sally Ferrell had been asking permission to talk to students about alternatives to joining the
military. The Wilkes County School Board had denied her access, even though military recruiters are typically allowed in schools,
and the superintendent had called her activities unpatriotic.'
What is 'proud' about serving the Federal Government
with drone attacks on innocent people? What is 'proud' about illegally occupying dozens of foreign countries that posed absolutely
no danger to us at home? What is 'proud' about so many things the Federal military does today around the planet in projecting
Washington, DC's power? Nothing.
And how is allowing a peaceful Quaker to counter the government propaganda pitch
somehow 'surrendering'? How is it 'unpatriotic' to counter what a tyrannical government is doing to us and so many foreign
folks around the globe? It's not.
Pro-South activist gives out 50 'Free Magnolia' at town hall meeting
This is the sort of activism we need across Dixie! When are YOU ready to step forward and do your part for a free South? Below
is a quote from Shane Long on the event:
'Got 50 Free Magnolia's passed out up in Towson last night, to a highly
supportive crowd! It was at a Ben Cardin town hall meeting. We have 2 senators. A trip around the state will reveal that
most folks can't stand either of them, but they've gerrymandered it so that each district dips into the Washington region,
thus rendering the rest of the state's opinion voiceless. Lot of people there angry at both sides.'
Notice how in the story it mentions that if the man bows down to the judge he may be let off. This is what
a police state that we have today - that yawning in a court is cause for jailing and that kissing up to a judge on some kind
of power trip can possibly get you off. Incredible. Anyone still think this is a 'free country'?
'In a ceremony similar to many she had participated
in during her life, the late Dinah Kahler was honored Saturday for her work in preserving Confederate heritage. In Greenwood
Pioneer Cemetery, a marker was dedicated to the memory of Kahler, who was a founding member of the Margaret Howell Davis Hayes
Chapter 2652 United Daughters of the Confederacy.'
Gators and sharks strike back in Florida... Yankees beware!
Is this some kind of conspiracy on the part of Florida's
wildlife or something? lol Who knows. Maybe native Floridians could use these sort of stories to scare off invading Yankees
though. hmmm... Just a thought.
Alligator holds stranded jet skier at bay
'A man whose
personal watercraft's engine stalled was stranded on an Orange County lake while an alligator lurked nearby. Rescue crews
had to pull the man out of Lake Lawne near the San Jose Shores area of Orlando on Sunday evening.'
'After a day
of spear fishing and lobster diving, a group of boaters got the scare of a lifetime when a shark jumped into their boat. Michael
Powers and his friends were on-board a 21 foot boat Saturday, when a shark decided to pay them an unannounced visit.'
'The Marion CSA Cemetery has been refurbished by the Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest Camp 1649 of the Sons
of Confederate Veterans.Of the 170 Civil War soldiers buried there, all unknown originally, 47 of them have been identified
with help from the Lauderdale County Archives Department.'
'Sumner decided to document each of the 268 Confederate graves at Oak Hill Cemetery -- from W.S. Alexander
of the 63rd Tennessee Regiment to Joel Young of Co. E, 17th Alabama Infantry.'
Will Florida nullify the Feds' health care scheme?
'In response to what some opponents see as a Congress that doesn’t represent their interests,
State Legislators are looking to the nearly-forgotten American political tradition of nullification as a way to reject any
potential national health care program that may be coming from Washington. The most recent effort comes from Florida State
Senator Carey Baker and State Representative Scott Plakon, who this week filed a proposed State Constitutional Amendment (HJR37) as a means to prevent Floridians from being affected by any Federal Health
Care Legislation. If approved by the legislature, Florida residents could be voting on it as early as 2010.'
We're seeing promising signs of resistance at last. Are you ready to say 'No!' to the Feds?
Russia reaffirms support for secessionist republics
'Dmitry Medvedev, the Russian president, has reaffirmed his country's commitment to South Ossetian
independence, saying that last year's conflict with Georgia redrew the map of the Caucasus for good.... In the wake of the conflict, Russia recognised South Ossetia and Abkhazia, another
breakaway Georgian region, as independent states.'
Russia obviously has the high moral ground on this issue,
while the Feds and their puppets in the Georgian government clearly do not believe in liberty and self-determination. Congrats
to Russia for doing the right thing in this matter.
Confederate marker celebrates 100 years in Pearisburg, VA
'A parade at 11 a.m. today in Pearisburg will begin a daylong celebration of the 100th anniversary of
the Confederate monument there. The parade will begin at the Andrew Johnston House and continue to the courthouse lawn. From
noon to 5 p.m., living history lessons will be available at the Andrew Johnson House, where the re-enactors will be set up
in camps. Other events are an antebellum fashion show, a deserter trail and a duel between two soldiers. Special guests include
Al Stone, who portrayed Robert E. Lee in the History Channel movie "April 1865."'
'While the effects of federal tyranny are being felt more seriously than ever, history and human nature
prove that the people of a society do not respond or revolt immediately against tyranny–though they have a right to.
America’s resistance is no different. Fortunately, the sleeping giant is being awakened, to the dismay of our Centralist-worshipers
today.'
'The bumper sticker, one seen on numerous vehicles and allowing little ambiguity, has the lone-starred Texas flag and a single
word: “Secede.” Some contend the annexation deal leaves Texas legal room to do this. In April, Texas Gov. Rick
Perry called his state a “unique place” and said one of the issues of its statehood agreement “was that
we would be able to leave if we decided to do that.” Of course, Mr. Perry faces a re-election test next year from within
and outside the Republican Party. Such a suggestion, interpreted as potential secession, might be construed as pandering to
the base. An assortment of Texans heard the remarks and said, “Let’s go.”'
Murfreesboro, TN captures 2012 SCV National Reunion
'The Convention and Visitors Bureau announces that the 2012 Sons of Confederate Veterans National Reunion will be held in
Murfreesboro. Capturing this event is a great accomplishment for the city, as Murfreesboro was up against stiff competition
with Civil War-entrenched Richmond, VA—among other cities—to play host to the event, which brings in around 500
registered members plus their famiilies. The dates of the 2012 reunion in Murfreesboro will be July 11-15 and the event will
fall on the esquicentennial—or 150th —anniversary year of the Battle of Murfreesboro as well as the exact anniversary
date of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest’s Murfreesboro raid and his birthday.'
'Paul discussed the philosophical and constitutional concepts of the America federal system, saying
the central government has become too powerful and should be limited to “constitutionally enumerated” powers and
others be left to the states. He said that would prevent federal mandates which must be paid for by the states. He went so
far as to say all of the country’s first 14 presidents except for Andrew Jackson and the founding fathers thought secession
was a constitutional prerogative, calling the union a “voluntary compact between the states as it was originally formed.”.
But he said he’s not advocating secession but “something sort of in between which is the states still have the
rights not enumerated (to the federal government) in the constitution.”'
'Dr. Rand Paul supports innovative medical technologies that have made life better for millions of Americans.
He believes we need a health care delivery system to match, with innovative coverage options only a free market can create.
Simply put, we need less government intervention in our private health matters, not more. The bureaucratic fixers have
had their chance to regulate and restrict our health care financing options and the resulting failure is plain to see.'
Myrtle Beach to host triathlon, Confederate flag issue
'A national competition for an Olympic sport is scheduled to come to Myrtle Beach in 2010 for the first
time, and local chamber of commerce officials are confident the Confederate battle flag on the Statehouse grounds will not
squelch this deal as it recently did with an ACC tournament.'
Feds deny free speech to anti-socialist student protesters in DC
'Third world nations are known for their repression of important liberties like freedom of speech.
Here's what happened when YAL convention attendees protested in Washington, DC, the supposed capitol of the free world.'
When we at SLMN say there is no liberty in the evil Empire, that's
exactly what we mean.
Feds giving away $2.4bn to select businesses - not to you
'The US president has announced a $2.4bn package for the increased manufacture of electric and hybrid-fuel
source vehicles, during an address to workers at a factory in Indiana.... The largest amount of grant money will be received
by businesses in Indiana and Michigan....'
Every dollar the Feds print to pay for this scheme takes value
away from all existing dollars around the globe. This money, which has been created out of thin air with nothing behind it,
is being given to favoured people by the Feds. This is how economies are destroyed and people lose faith in regimes. This
is the sort of thing that causes governments to fall - and rightfully so. This is theft.
'Global warming isn't bad news for everybody. In Greenland, the big melt could mean a flood of new revenue from mineral and
oil deposits— previously trapped under ice. Flush with prospects, the locals are talking about making a final break
from their benevolent colonizer, Denmark. Call it the Thaw Revolution'
Top Federal commander in Iraq disagrees with early pull-out memo
'The senior U.S. commander in Iraq Tuesday rejected a memo by a subordinate who argued for U.S. troops
to withdrawal earlier than planned, the commander's spokeswoman said.'
When is the Federal occupation ever
going to end? The waste of life and wealth needs to come to a close.
Former House member convicted on corruption charges
'Former U.S. Rep. William Jefferson of Louisiana was convicted Wednesday on 11 of the 16 corruption
charges against him. Jefferson, a 62-year-old Democrat, was indicted by a federal grand jury on June 4, 2007, on corruption
charges, about two years after federal agents said they found $90,000 in his freezer. Authorities said the cash was part of
a payment in marked bills from an FBI informant in a transaction captured on video.'
Talk about cold, hard
cash! lol More corruption from the Feds... what's new?
How is America going to end? Who's most likely to secede?
'In the American end times, our government will take one of two forms. One possibility is that federalism
will give way to an all-powerful central government....The other option is decentralization—in the absence of a unifying
national interest, the United States of America will fragment and be supplanted by regional governance.'
Not
exactly a friendly article towards the two pro-South secessionist groups mentioned (though the writer seems to be more friendly
towards the Texas Nationalist movement than the League of the South). That said, any news on the various secessionist movements
is positive.
And quickly, 'America' is not the US Federal Government. Far from it.
'What do you do if you are a soldier being asked to fight a war you do not believe in? For two former
soldiers whose unit was ordered to deploy to Iraq in April 2005, the answer came in the form of work slowdowns, letter-writing
campaigns, and one-on-one organizing with fellow soldiers. The result: they helped prevent their unit from deploying to a
war zone.'
Confederate Relic Room to begin Homeschool Fridays on August 14th
'The Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum’s Homeschool Friday program will begin on August
14th. This year’s Homeschool Friday topics will cover a broad range of military history, and take advantage of the museum’s
exciting exhibit schedule over the next academic year. Homeschool Fridays is a program normally held on the second Friday
morning of each month at the museum from August through May. The museum offers lectures and activities to supplement home
learning on topics related to military history.'
'I believe that the States created the federal government and not the other way around. And that the
power that the States gave to the Federal Government – they can take back.'
'During our war of 1861, ex-slave Frederick Douglass observed, "There are at the present moment,
many colored men in the Confederate Army doing duty not only as cooks, servants and laborers, but as real soldiers, having
muskets on their shoulders and bullets in their pockets, ready to shoot down ... and do all that soldiers may do to destroy
the Federal government."'
Excellent stuff as nearly always from the great Walter E Williams.
'One of the two dominant political parties in the U.S. from the mid-1830s to the mid-1850s. The party was
formed about 1834 by members of the defunct National Republican party and others opposed to the policies of President Andrew
Jackson... In 1844 the Whig party, whose leaders were the statesmen Daniel Webster and Henry Clay, nominated Clay for president.'
'Henry Clay and others had called themselves National Republicans - based on their vision of
the United States as nation while others saw it as a confederation of states - taking strong national measures like building
inter-state roads.... After the Jackson era, the Whig party drifted towards its strongest elements, the national improvements
men. That tendency was strongest by far in the North; the South being in those days almost purely agrarian.'
'The party eventually fractured and essentially ceased to exist after a lack of success in
the 1852 presidential election. However, Whigs and their ideas influenced the new Republican Party. Abraham Lincoln, for instance,
had once been a Whig.'
Alabama's Jefferson County proves how bad government can be
'Alabama's debt-ridden Jefferson County laid off about two-thirds of its 3,600 employees on Monday because
of plummeting revenues, a move that will sharply curtail services in areas ranging from roads to courthouses. The cuts are
just the latest blow to Jefferson, whose population of 660,000 includes Birmingham, the state's largest city and its economic
powerhouse. They come after the county racked up around $4 billion in debt by using exotic financial instruments to fund a
revamp of its sewer system.'
Jefferson County is proving just how awful government can be. They employed too
many people, took on too many responsibilities and then used 'exotic financial instruments' the article says to further expand
their spending... until the whole socialist mess they had built up fell down. Well, what did they expect? Socialism does not
work as an economic system. Look at the former USSR. There is a reason it is called the former USSR.
There might
be a bright silver lining to this disaster. The people may see how little they really need the government bureaucrats
and start depending on themselves and each other for a change. That would create real economic growth that would be sustainable,
rather than the pyramids of debt the local government had constructed. The people might also start considering if they really
should continue forking over the extortion money called 'taxes' that Jefferson County is obviously wasting.
'First we attacked Afghanistan. Then we attacked Iraq. Now the U.S. has it sights set on Switzerland. Peaceful, neutral Switzerland?
That's right. What's the crime? It's not sponsoring terrorism or harboring weapons of mass destruction. No, in the eyes of
the U.S. government, Switzerland has done far worse: it's kept money out of the hands of the Internal Revenue Service, money
to which the IRS may not even be entitled under any law anywhere.'
Well, 'we' didn't do anything to those
foreign countries - the Feds did. But this article shows how criminal Washington, DC is today.
Cousins gather, research genealogies of former Confederate soldiers
'Shipley's project is something that perhaps few will ever see. Along with her cousin, Charles Blackmon,
she's resurrecting the dead, compiling genealogy profiles of every Confederate soldier buried in two of the oldest and largest
cemeteries in Lancaster, where the cousins both grew up. Their work is aimed at helping other genealogists searching for the
buried past. They know where the pioneers ended their trail, and they want to find how they got there and where it began.'
Confederate markers damaged at Poplar Spring Cemetery
'At first glance the east side of Poplar Spring Cemetery, where the remains of 84 Confederate soldiers
are buried, looks well-kept and serene. A closer look, however, reveals that a number of the markers and headstones are broken,
falling over or have been moved. The top has been broken off one tall headstone, while another marker has been broken into
two pieces, with the top part placed precariously back on top of the base. “It’s a real shame,” said Joe
Gay, who has three immediate family members and one in-law, all Confederate veterans, buried there. Gay keeps up the family
plot where his great-grandfather, Littleton Gay, and two great-uncles, Josiah and Harrison Gay, are buried and sort of “watches
over the cemetery,” he says.'
